Reading Notes: The Three Roses, Part B

This was a great story to read! The writing style is nice because it is easy to understand. There are no tricks or difficult language to comprehend. When writing my stories, I will use easier language in order to allow readers to understand exactly what is going on. I also like how this story has a mix of being told from a narrator and then also having dialogue between characters. I sometimes only do one or the other rather than including both. It is easy to get caught up in the certain way that you are writing, but being able to switch it up within the same short story will add variation which will be nice. The character Mary seems sweet. She enjoys the simpler things in life and does not demand much. Incorporating a character like her into my stories would be good because it is a good character. It can be entertaining to have negative and bad characters, but having a nice character is essential as well.

Roses that Mary wanted

Once Mary got to the castle, it got a little strange. Like Beauty and the Beast, Mary was forced to live in the castle and help the basilisk. But unlike Beauty and the Beast, Mary had to cut off the head of the basilisk twice. This is very different. It was rather abrupt as well. Eventually the basilisk turned into a young man and told Mary that she had to marry him. If I were to write a story using this story as a guideline, I would change the ending up. The whole “You have no choice to fall in love with me and marry me” thing is overrated. I would write something different than this ending. Additionally, I would write a better concluding sentence. This story just ends. From this story, I learned a lot about how I want to write my own stories. I was given inspiration from The Three Roses, but it also gave me adaptations that I would plan on using. All in all, I like this story and it gave me a lot to work with for my own story!
