Reading Notes: Tales from a Parrot, Part B
Well I somehow messed up the Part A reading because I read the ending! Oops! So I think for these reading notes I will figure out where I went wrong and comment more on specific stories rather than big picture. Maybe this will help me in writing an additional story that the parrot told Khojisteh.
Something I didn't mention in the last reading post was my liking to how the story used both dialogue and storytelling all in one. This gives opportunities to use some variation in creating a story. I like this idea and would incorporate it if I choose to create a new story for the parrot to tell.
a snake from the story
The Nobleman who Concealed a Snake in His Sleeve is an interesting story. To me, this story is definitely using some foreshadowing as to what will happen to Khojisteh at the end. I think that the man is Miemun and the snake is Khojisteh. The snake comes to the man and they are essentially working together, kind of like a marriage. Then the snake back stabs the man by saying he will bite him and kill him. This parallels the fact that Khojisteh is immorally being with another man and going back on their vows. Then the man finds a way to get rid of the snake when he hears what the snake will do. The man kills the snake on the side of the head, just like how Miemun kills Khojisteh. It seems as if the snake has used a story to try and teach Khojisteh a lesson. I am thinking back to my reading notes for Part A, and even though I messed them up, I think that I overlooked this with the previous stories that I have read. Or maybe I am looking too far into it and trying to connect the two when they don't have anything in common. I am thinking of retelling this story from a different perspective. Maybe I could use some sort of technology device and have the device start to turn the human into a robot. Then the human has to find a way to get water onto the device before he/she is doomed.
