Story Lab, Week 6
This week I decided to do the story lab again. I really liked this tactic from last week. I found it helpful and entertaining. Plus it breaks down writing so many stories into longer periods of time.
I decided to look into the Writers Write. Specifically, I looked into the most popular section to get me started.
20 Myths to Use as Writing Prompts instantly got my attention. I sometimes that I lack creativity in creating new stories. Or the stories that I do make up are a little basic. I definitely think that what I will learn in this article will be extremely useful for other stories throughout the semester. Writing a story about a myth is really interesting and something that I have never thought about before. The huge list of myths to write about have a ton of different options. From why is the sky blue to why droughts happen, it can stem creative thoughts and processes for stories. I think that using the myth idea would come in handy for the different readings that we read each week. I imagine myself focusing in on one prime part of the readings each week to create a myth. Of course it would involve the reading and the specific story, but the idea of creating a myth is very different. It allows the writer to use their liberties in their creativity. It is something that I can see myself doing!
Don't be afraid to try new ways to tell your story
I also find myself using repetitive words. The article 45 Ways to Avoid Using the Word 'Very' is quite helpful! It is easy to get dragged into using the same descriptive words. This article has given a lot of great ideas! Very is a lazy word to use when writing stories. I know this, yet continue to use words like this. Instead, I should focus on using more descriptive words. After all, very is an incredibly useless word, so there is only room to go up! I think that having charts like this article includes is really helpful for people that are looking to change up or improve their writing style. I know that it has really helped me!
