Reading Notes: Marriage Tales, Part A

Bear-Woman and Deer-Woman
Wow this story is brutal from the beginning. The bear tricks the doe into thinking that she has lice in her hair. It was actually sand, but when she went to "clean" it out she killed the doe and then cooked her head! The doe's children knew this and played a trick on the bear. Eventually the doe children ran away to go tell on the bear but the bear chased them but did not succeed in catching them. This story was a little confusing because it just took a random turn. I think that a story that I could tell from this story would be the bear children and the doe children talking after the doe children think that the bear woman is cooking the doe woman. This would be an interesting conversation because it would be the different children accusing each others mothers of being mean and killing one another.

The Fox-Woman
This story was very interesting. A woman lived in a fox's skin and was cleaning a random man's house. Eventually the man didn't like the way she smelled so she left and never visited or stayed with a man again. I think a story that I could include from this story would be me telling a story after this story of her finding another man, but her vowing to not get involved with him. It would show her desires but she would ultimately keep her promise and not get involved with him. I could include flashbacks to her feelings of when she stayed with the man from the original story. It would be a different kind of story but I think that I could be really creative with it.

These were my two favorite stories from reading A. I think that I have a couple good writing options for my story on Thursday.
